DACA

June 22, 2020

PIRC is overjoyed at the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision Thursday allowing DACA to temporarily move forward. The U.S. Supreme Court decided that the way in which the Trump administration ended Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (“DACA”) was arbitrary and capricious. This decision results in the temporary preservation of a program that protects hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children, often called Dreamers. Much work is left to be done.

While this decision provides ongoing temporary protection, PIRC calls on Congress to act and create a permanent solution that would provide a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. Dreamers are essential members of our society often working in areas of desperate need, including the health care field. These resilient young men and women have been living in limbo for far too long and are deserving of security and a path to citizenship. Anything less would be unjust.

Today is a day for celebration! DACA lives to fight another day and PIRC will continue to fight alongside Dreamers for ongoing protection and lawful status
